Pozar Thermal Baths

Warm water at 37°C, in the middle of the forest — all year round.

About 55 kilometres from Driades Hotel, in the Almopia area of the Pella region, lie the Pozar Thermal Baths — among the best-known thermal springs in Greece. The warm water rises from deep within the mountain at a constant 37°C all year round, and flows down among rocks and plane trees, forming natural waterfalls and pools.

The most iconic image of Pozar is its open-air pools and warm waterfalls in the gorge, where you can swim in the warm water even when there is snow all around you. There is also a large outdoor pool and modern indoor hydrotherapy centres with pools, a hammam and private baths.

For many of our guests, Pozar is the perfect complement to a winter stay: a day on the slopes of Mount Vermio and the next day relaxing in the warm waters. But in spring or autumn too, the drive through the villages and orchards of Almopia is one of the most beautiful in Macedonia.

A small village with tavernas, cafés and shops selling local products has grown up around the springs. Hiking trails along the gorge also start from Pozar, while a little higher up is the Kaimaktsalan ski resort. Almopia is also known for its chestnuts and fruit — it is worth stopping to shop on the way back.

The drive from the hotel takes about an hour, so Pozar works well as a day trip: leaving in the morning, you have the whole day for bathing, eating and strolling, and you are back at Driades for the evening. If you like, you can combine the trip with a stop in Edessa and its waterfalls.

A few practical tips: bring a swimsuit, a towel and slippers, as well as something warm for after your bath in the colder months. Weekends and holidays are very busy, so if you can, arrive on a weekday or in the morning. Thermal baths are not suitable for everyone — if you have any health condition, consult your doctor first.
