Seli ski resort

The first organised ski resort in Greece, half an hour from here.

About 16 kilometres from Driades Hotel lies Seli — one of the oldest and best-known ski resorts in Greece, with a history going back to the 1930s. Its short distance makes it an easy choice for a day in the snow, returning to the hotel the same evening.

The resort has slopes of varying difficulty, suitable for both beginners and more experienced skiers, as well as places to eat for a break between runs. Together with nearby 3-5 Pigadia, it is one of the two main centres of winter tourism on Mount Vermio.

The village of Seli, at the foot of the ski area, keeps its traditional architecture and several small tavernas — a good stop for a hot meal before heading back.

Seli holds a special place in Greek skiing: it operates as a National Ski Centre and is considered the first organised ski resort in the country, with roots in the 1930s. Today it has thirteen green, blue and red slopes and a lift network that includes a two-seater chairlift, drag lifts and a baby lift for children — which is why it is one of the friendliest choices for families and beginners. The characteristic chalet with its steeply pitched roof is everyone’s meeting point.

It is worth knowing that Seli is not only a winter destination. The rest of the year, the same slopes become a playground for hiking and mountain biking among the fir and beech trees of Mount Vermio, cool even in August. If you stay with us in summer and want to escape the heat of the plain, a drive up to Seli is one of the easiest and most rewarding outings in the area.

Two practical tips for winter. First, the road to the ski area climbs steeply and after snowfall snow chains or winter tyres may be required — make sure you have them with you if the weather is bad. Second, because the distance from the hotel is short, you don’t need to “sacrifice” the whole day: many of our guests drive up in the morning, ski until noon and come back to rest, keeping the afternoon free for Naoussa.
